Hello friends, it’s Vibes Week 10, with a special theme: Eurovision. It’s been an enlightening week, learning about Eurovision for the first time and experiencing some great music from the competition. I might even have a favourite candidate in this edition of the competition; don’t ask who 😂.

 


Dizzy is emotional, upbeat music by Olly Alexander, the contestant representing the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, a very good first release for him. Despite struggles so far, with the week being a long one and, most importantly, amid very strong and beautiful artists, he will be in the finals. Best of luck to him. We have made a cover of the acoustic version of the song.

 

Myself and @bobbydones have always wanted to do a physical collaboration, but if you ask, he’ll say I forced him (lies, don’t listen hehe). Anyway, it’s the school break, and what perfect timing to get it done, so here we are. It was a fun experience—learning a new song, rehearsing, and shooting the video. We hope you enjoy this music.

It’s a joy to be participating in the competition this week; I had to take time off reading for my exams for this one! I’ve always wanted to sing a song by the Beatles, and what perfect timing!


I encountered the Beatles’ music through a movie titled Yesterday. It was about a guy who had a crash, and when he woke up from the event, the entire world knew nothing about the Beatles, so he had to reintroduce the music. The song I’m presenting today was played at the end of the movie. While replaying this particular scene, I heard my parents humming the song, and I was shocked, but of course they would know the song. What was I thinking? I’m therefore dedicating this one to them, a cheer to life.

Hello my friends! Hola mi amigos!

It's Hive Open Mic week 205. It has been a loong while and I have sorely missed the camaraderie of the community! I am so glad to be here again. A lot has happened in a few months and I hope I'll be able to share some in coming entries.

First of all, I want to take the credits of being the first person to ever feature in a music video with my friend @monioluwa 😅. It was a really cool experience. We were going to do a song by the legendary ***Queen*** (you can guess which), but couldn't due to time constraints and limitations towards preparation.

Westlife could be called a household name as many of us grew up listening to their songs and these songs are still and always will be relevant, regardless of the generation and, *Flying Without Wings* is one that we both love.

#### Another week to viiibe 🎊

 


Hello friends! My cover is titled *No One Knows Tomorrow* by Nigerian artist *Asa*. I was on my way home when I heard the song on the radio of a commercial car. Hearing the song brought back memories of my childhood and friends, so I thought it would make a good entry for the week.

 

As a child, it was just a song we sang, now the lyrics make a lot more sense, especially as most of us are no longer together. Like the lyrics, “When I die someday, will I be in heavenly places, singing hallelujah with an angel on the piano?"  we can only be optimistic about the future, looking forward to the best!

Hello friends! It feels so good participating in this competition. Looking back, this week has been one of the longest of my life but here we are.

Like I mentioned earlier, the Vibes community has sure caused a buzz on Hive. For many musicians on hive, this competition has ignited something different. Being a weekly competition coupled with the fact that it is open to all and sundry makes it evenbetter, kudos to the founding team @lordbutterfly. Many thanks to my beautiful friends who made the effort to reach out, I was literally summoned from my long overdue break to come see this! This one is for you @olujay, @hopestylist, @bobbydones, @monioluwa, @obaro, much looove.

Trust in You by Lauren Daigle is my go-to in times like this: frustrating and depressing times. The lyrics are just encouraging and sometimes relieving. It reminds me that I don’t have to do too much, just trust. This is the same I bring to you all. These are some trying times but trust God to take care of you.

Being a very long week, it took a while to get this done. And, I made a new friend in the process of making this video. I was exhausted and running on preserve battery when she offered to be my motivation, influencing the choice of music. Victory ticked all boxes in the vibe check and I’m glad to be acquainted with her.

***People*** is a very interesting theme that can mean a lot of things to different people. I remember one of my big brothers sharing me this popular song on social media: *people love,people leave...*, pointing out how true the lyrics of these song are but also to remember that despite all these, people are beautiful. If everyone was perfect, life wouldn't be as interesting as it should be.

The idea of perfection drew my attention to this song. From the lyrics, it began as comparison of oneself with other people. Many times, we are tempted to compare ourselves to others, causing a great deal of unhappiness for ourselves and even people around us. Comparison can persuade you into things you shouldn't do and sometimes you just learn to accept you for you.

Not only does this help us grow, it also helps appreciate the people we are surrounded with, despite our differences.

Moving on to my choice of song, it's been a couple of long weeks, but this week was particularly lengthy. I didn't have a chance to learn a song for the theme like I'd have loved to, but I chose to do one I love. This song speaks to me on different levels each time I listen to it. Hii friends, it's a beautiful week with a most timely theme. This week was a "cool" one (I'm maintaining positivity 😂) and I just had to tell myself that giving up is not an option. Making this video, I was stressed out and unprepared, but I didn't want to miss out on the week's theme, hence my unusual choice of music.

**Coat of many colors** is a song I heard and learned at a young age, and I'm sure most people are familiar with the song by the iconic *Dolly Parton* (the woman who never grows old). Talks about how a child's poor mother made her a coat from rags against the cold of the fall and likens it to Joseph's coat in the Bible.

Although the song itself has a message, I chose this song for the theme because whenever I want to give up, I'm reminded of hurdles I've overcome. There are some challenges we face that overcoming is like releasing your breath. So when greater challenges come our way, we believe that if we can overcome those hurdles, we can overcome any hurdle at all, even if they are greater.

I imagine being in her shoes and telling myself, "If I could live a childhood with no fancy things but a happy outlook towards life, bring it on; I can overcome anything. It's all a matter of our mindset. So next time you want to give up, remember that victory you're so proud of and remember that God's got you always.

*Take Me Home, Country Roads* is a favorite of mine that reminds me of memories I have with my brother of times when we were . The first time I heard this song was from the movie *Kingsman: The Golden Circle*, in a very emotional scene. It is hard to see that movie and not have this song imprinted on your mind.

The concept of *home* is relative. Several times I've heard people describe home as wherever they are, as long as they have their loved ones around them. In relation to the theme, this song describes home (to the singer) as a place. John Denver talked about the mountains and rivers of West Virginia and the environment as his home. This reminds me of where I grew up. I spent most of my childhood in the staff quarters of a tertiary institution. When I was younger, I'd take strolls with my siblings, visit the library, and admire statues, paintings, and flowers. It was like growing up with those elements. So when I had a friend over, I'd take them around and show off my non-living childhood friends (you could call them that). Below is a picture of my favorite location.

Every now and then when I'm away from home, I miss these sceneries so I make up for it whenever I'm home, especially when the students are not in session. It's a wonderful feeling that Mother Nature affords us. It would be a wonder for anyone not to love her.
