Selah: time to pause

Every plane journey you take starts with the flight attendants doing their safety demonstration. Part of that presentation always includes getting you to look around and locate your nearest exit, to which there are always lights guiding the way. Most of the time you will likely not even notice that they are there, but in an emergency they could well be essential.

On Monday in our walk through John’s gospel we thought about how we try to hide our failings from each other and from God. Today we are going to think about how sometimes we even try to hide our sinfulness from ourselves, by considering the experiences of Isaiah and the tribe of Judah.

In 2019 a study by Mary Sherlock and Danielle Wagstaff  found that frequent Instagram use was linked to depression, low self-esteem, appearance anxiety and body dissatisfaction.

We want to combat this with our new Instagram initiative, feed.my.spirit https://instagram.com/feed.my.spirit/

Programmes like “24 hours in police custody”, “Emergency Helicopter Medics”, “Police camera action”, “Ambulance” and 999 Emergency” are growing in popularity. But we have begun to get used to these, so as they try to make them yet more sensational, they have a new idea.  They now follow the emergency services AT NIGHT ... Bad behaviour, it seems’ loves the darkness.

On Monday in our walk through John’s gospel we considered how Jesus spoke to Nicodemus, teaching him that the message of God’s love is for whoever believes – not just for the Jews.

Today we will look at a passage where Paul speaks to the non Jewish church in Ephesus, teaching them how Christ has made them and the Jewish Christians to be one united people.
