After the Chronicle — Mixtape Edition 321

by Obi-Wan SA

Edition 321 is a quiet conversation held late into the night. It opens in tenderness, with Latin-soul warmth and human voices close to the ear, then slowly widens into something more reflective and modern. This is After the Chronicle in its most intimate form — not trying to impress, but to connect. Louie Vega, Lisa Ono, Anané and Atjazz set a tone of reverence and romance, before Fatso 98, ZuluMafia and Jazzanova introduce grit, memory, and movement beneath the surface.

The mix moves like a slow exhale: moments of devotion, flashes of vulnerability, and rhythms that never hurry the heart. Themes repeat and return, especially in the two versions of That Night, as if the music itself is remembering what it just felt. This is house music for people who have lived, loved, lost, and are still here — not louder, just deeper.

After the Chronicle doesn’t look back with regret. It looks back with gratitude, then keeps walking.

Crates & Cuts — Remastered Vol. 2 | Side A: Speak Lord

A reverent deep house journey rooted in South African lineage and gospel-inflected soul.

Patient grooves, reassuring vocals, and basslines built for grounding and gratitude.

This is music for reflection, movement, and quiet thanks — nothing rushed, nothing forced.

Side A opens in reverence. These selections move like a quiet prayer — not loud, not urgent, but deeply felt. Rooted in South African deep house lineage and gospel-inflected soul, this side honours protection, love, memory, and gratitude. The journey begins with When House Was House, a gentle acknowledgement of origin, before unfolding into moments of devotion and reassurance through Speak Lord and He Keeps Me Safe. As the groove deepens, patience replaces urgency — basslines steady enough to lean on, vocals that soothe rather than demand, rhythms that guide rather than push.

This is music for grounding: for kitchens still warm after cooking, for dancefloors where eyes close and shoulders soften, for late-night moments when movement becomes thanks. Classic soul is re-imagined with care, from Sweetest Taboo to Gypsy Woman, not as nostalgia, but as living memory. The arc closes in cultural affirmation with Nyuku and Hayi Baba, where lineage, rhythm, and modern South African deep house converge without spectacle. Nothing here rushes to impress. Everything here knows why it exists.

Crates & Cuts: Soul Under the Tree

Christmas Eve doesn’t need fireworks.

It needs warmth, funk, and a little faith in rhythm.

This Crates & Cuts session is built for low lights, full kitchens, open hearts, and conversations that stretch past midnight. It’s house music dressed in velvet — soulful, spiritual, and generous with its joy.

From Eric Kupper’s gentle invocation to Atjazz & Shea Soul’s tender farewell, this mix celebrates togetherness without noise. It’s for stirring pots, clinking glasses, hugging aunties too long, and dancing barefoot when nobody’s watching.

There’s gospel in the basslines.

Funk in the footwork.

And gratitude tucked between the kicks.

No rush. No hype. Just music that understands why people gather — to remember, to forgive, to laugh, and to feel at home.

This is Crates & Cuts for Christmas Eve.

Soul under the tree.

Groove in the bones.

Crates & Cuts 808 – Classics Edition (Festive energy)

Crates & Cuts 808 is not a throwback — it’s a reminder.

A reminder that house music was never meant to rush. That groove comes from patience, from dusty records, from DJs who listened more than they spoke. This edition moves through deep house, soulful cuts, jackin’ rhythms, and township funk with the confidence of a selector who knows where the music comes from — and where it still needs to go.

From Freil’s percussive invocation to DJ Mujava’s unmistakable closer, this mix is a celebration of lineage. Chicago to Europe, New York to South Africa, emotion to machinery, church to basement.

Perfect for long nights, year-end reflections, warm kitchens after service, or dancefloors where the lights stay low and the music does the talking.

This is Crates & Cuts:

No trends.

No shortcuts.

Just classics — played with respect, rhythm, and a quiet smile.

The strange and beautiful thing about house music is that it ages like memory: some details fade, but the feeling grows stronger. This mix understands that, and lets it breathe.

✨ DEEP HOUSE ESSENTIALS — NOVEMBER EDITION ✨

Mixed & Curated by Obi-Wan SA

The season of longer nights, open windows, and warm hearts is here.

This month’s selection is a journey into gratitude, joy, and the rhythm of becoming. The music leans into the old soul of Deep House, then rises into new-school emotion. It’s storytelling through percussion and whispered promises on the dancefloor.

From Nastee Nev & Donald Sheffey reminding us to Let Go, to SoulFreakah & NutownSoul giving us a gentle Thank You, we walk barefoot into a season of healing and celebration.

There’s church in the groove when Donna Allen sings He Is The Joy, and there is prayer in motion when Mandeep SA urges us: If You Believe.

The classic flame returns when MFR Souls, Maphorisa, Sha Sha & Kabza are reimagined through a bootleg that still tastes like 2019 summer skies.

And then we glide deeper:

ZuluMafia. Trust SA. Dustinho. The Jargons. LaTique. Chronical Deep. D.General. Quentin Harris. Margaret Grace.

Voices and keys opening doors we forgot we closed.

This is not just a mix — it’s a seasonal shift.

A reminder that November is the soft doorway into December, and December is the reason Deep House was invented.

This one is for:

People who two-step in the kitchen

Lovers who text “I’m outside” at 1:47 AM

Friends who never let a year end without one more dance

Anyone who believes music is a spiritual language

Let the chants, chords, and kicks guide you into a festive season of

Love, Peace & Joy.

Crates & Cuts 806 – Love, Faith & Groove

There’s a kind of house music that doesn’t rush to impress — it invites you home.

Crates & Cuts 806 is that kind of journey.

Obi-Wan SA returns with a mix that feels less like a playlist and more like prayer in motion — where Latin warmth, African rhythm, and soulful truth meet on the same frequency.

From Gari Sinedima’s tender “Amigo” to the divine collaboration of Artwork Sounds & Hypaphonik on “Glory,” this session moves with purpose — never forced, never empty. Each track feels chosen by spirit, not algorithm.

You’ll dance, but you’ll also remember.

You’ll nod, but you’ll also feel thankful.

You’ll realize deep house was never about drops — it’s about devotion.

By the time China Charmeleon’s “Woza Mntana” closes the set, you’re left lighter — as if rhythm itself whispered something back.

Crates & Cuts 806 is for those who listen not just to beats, but to what’s between them: the faith, the friendship, the love, and the groove.

AFRO SUNSET 2025 Mixed by Obi-Wan SA

The sun returns — and with it, the rhythm.

Not rushed. Not manufactured.

But born from dust, dance, and drum.

Afro Sunset is back, carrying the heat of the earth and the calm of the sky.

Where SGVO sketches the horizon in deep tones,

Letta Mbulu’s voice rises like an ancestral prayer,

and Dlala Thukzin lights the fire in the sand.

This is the sound of barefoot feet on warm ground.

The echo of a people who laugh, love, mourn, and rise through melody.

Basslines built like heartbeat.

Vocals shaped like memory.

Percussion that refuses to forget where it came from.

Afro-tech, Afro-soul, Afro-ancestral — all stitched together in one sunset story.

A celebration of pulse and presence.

A reminder that we didn’t just inherit rhythm —

we are rhythm.

Press play,

and let the sun set on everything heavy.

The music will carry what words cannot.
