Self-care is not selfish. You must take care of yourself, both physically and spiritually, if you want to be effective in ministry. Resolve to let go of the duty-based approach to “doing things” for God and look for those areas in your life where you can build in reflective practices with what you are already doing.

Having a conversation partner for ministry who is outside of your immediate church context can be very helpful for you. I talk with and coach pastors who are feeling overwhelmed and are possibly burned out or who are going through transitions. It’s easier to approach these problems from the front end rather than the back end after burnout has settled in or a major conflict has arisen. If you would like to talk, please reach out to me and let’s connect.
