Self-Discipline

Listen Later

What is self-discipline: it refers to a person’s ability to control and regulate their own behavior, decisions, thoughts, emotions, and impulses — even when distraction (do what needs to be done, even when you don’t feel like it.), temptation or discomfort arise — to stay aligned with their long-term goals or values. Questions for thought: What does self-discipline look like in your life right now? Who do you know that shows good self-discipline? What do they do? When do you find it hardest to stay focused or make good choices? What emotions make it hardest for you to stay disciplined? How can you calm yourself before reacting when you’re upset or frustrated? What happens when you let your emotions make the choice instead of your goals? What distracts you the most at home or school? How could you remove or reduce that distraction this week? What small habit could you add to your routine to help you stay on track? What’s one goal you want to achieve in the next two weeks? What will you do when you don’t feel like working toward that goal? How will you know you are improving your self-discipline? How does your self-discipline affect the people around you? What does a disciplined leader look like? What would someone learn about you by watching your habits? When you miss a goal, how can you take responsibility and get back on track? What can you learn from the last time you gave up too early? What’s something you’re proud of where you showed self-discipline?
