  • 066: Chef Michael Peacock, The Flying Pie Guy
Welcome to Episode 066, with Chef Michael Peacock, Founder of The Flying Pie Guy

    About Michael:
As a child growing up in Australia and New Zealand, Chef Michael Peacock loved when Friday’s would come around and lucky boys and girls would be able to order fresh, hot pies from their local tuck shop. Hot pies would be delivered to school just before lunch time. The classrooms would be filled with excitement as the aroma of freshly baked pies spread throughout the school.

In the early 1980’s, Mike and his family immigrated to America. New Jersey to be exact. Much to Mike’s surprise, his beloved meat pies were nowhere to be found. Mike would watch his Mum and Dad make meals for his family and loved when they would make pastry filled delights like pies and pasties. Mike grew fond of cooking and soon started cooking on his own. As a teen, Mike would work in restaurants and beg for the Chefs to teach him more about the Culinary Arts, quickly developing a natural love for cooking.

Mike chose a different career path as he started a family of his own but continued to develop his cooking skills. In 2015, Mike made the decision to leave his corporate job and to pursue a new career, one he was passionate about and The Flying Pie Guy was born!

Mike’s dream is to make authentic savory pies, with roots from New Zealand and Australia, available to everyone in America and beyond. He carefully developed his Mum and Dads recipes as well as his own to make them appealing to people of all ages and nationalities. He knew it was important that his signature pastry paired perfectly with his flavor packed fillings and that each gourmet pie was made using all-natural ingredients.

Mike launched his new company in June of 2016. He chose to launch starting with a Food Truck. Timing was perfect as the Food Truck craze was in full swing. Chef Mike thought a Food Truck would be a perfect way to cover large areas, serve all kinds of customers and test which recipes are liked more than others. Chefs Mikes’ savory pies have won awards and been highlighted by numerous media outlets. Mike’s Food Truck was ranked one of the best in New Jersey during 2019 by Peter Genovese, a successful author and food and lifestyle writer for NJ.com. Mike travels throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania, selling his natural, savory and delicious pies to all his happy customers.

Very soon, Chef Mike will launch his e-commerce shop, as he realizes his dreams of making his gourmet pies available to everyone who wants to enjoy them. Mike’s ready-to-bake, Down Under style pies and other goodies, will be available through his online portal, and shipped across America.
Here is what we discussed on this episode:

  • 065: SPECIAL COVID-19 RELEASE – Aaron Beverly, the 2019 Toastmasters World Champion of Public Speaking
Welcome to this Special Release Episode of the Self Made Strategies Podcast

Please read the special message, from Tony Lopes, inspired by Aaron Beverly.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has caused significant stress, but maybe it also presents an opportunity for those of us fortunate enough to have our health.  In our entire human history, there has never been a better opportunity to develop your personal brand and further develop your online presence through storytelling.  Most people are stuck inside, at home, ransacking the internet for entertaining, educational, and positive content.  So who would be better to teach you, to “Speak and Be You,” than the 2019 Toastmasters World Champion of Public Speaking, Aaron Beverly.

You may remember Aaron, who was our guest in the good ol’ days, ya know…August of 2019.  He sat down with us again (remotely of course) to give us all of his strategies for public speaking success.

Aaron delivered an incredible and entertaining speech, “An Unbelievable Story,” which you will hear on this episode.  You can also watch this episode on our brand NEW YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOG-mybCfvYWhoXo4vPoB5g), or on Aaron’s own YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHVNLGTZBrLiyVcLYqYyETQ).  Don’t forget to hit SUBSCRIBE when you visit both!

Aaron was 30 years old when he took the stage to make his second attempt (he finished 2nd in 2016) at the Toastmasters World Championship.  Aaron, a JP Morgan project manager by day, kept the promise he made on Episode 025 of the Self Made Strategies Podcast when he took home the Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking in August of 2019.

In his winning speech Aaron highlights the importance of “acceptance despite difference,” a timely lesson in our post-COVID-19-quarantine world.  Only father time will tell where we will be by Summer of 2020, but hopefully Aaron’s message will spread faster than the virus causing the hysteria and people will focus on “acceptance despite difference.”

Let’s remember that at the end of the day, we are all humans, with loved ones of our own.  Let’s treat each other with dignity, respect, and compassion.
    About Aaron Beverly
Aaron is developing a brand new YouTube channel to continue teaching others the benefits of becoming a strong public speaker.  In August 2016, before becoming the World Champion of Public Speaking, Aaron Beverly became the 1st runner up in the prestigious Toastmasters International World Championship of Public Speaking competing against over 30,000 competitors across the globe.

Aaron has spoken in locations around the world and has engaged audiences in companies such as Vanguard, J.P. Morgan Chase, and Wells Fargo; associations such as the National Association of Asian American Professionals as well as educational institutions such as Drexel University, Temple University and University of Pennsylvania.

You can connect with Aaron by email at [email protected], or connect with him on social media: Facebook | LinkedIn | Instagram| YouTube

  • 064: Sarah Ford, Founder of Ranch Road Boots
Welcome to Episode 064, with Sarah Ford Founder of Ranch Road Boots

    About Sarah Ford:
Sarah Ford learned the meaning of hard work when her father hired her to be the janitor for his office at just 10 years old! She didn't bristle at the work - instead, she expanded the business and ran a janitorial company, cleaning the bathrooms & offices for most of the tenants in the building until she was 17.
Instilled with fortitude and commitment to work at such a young age, Sarah has never taken the easy path in life. A Marine Corps Veteran, she's served two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.
She then went on to Harvard Business School. She says she learned more on the battlefield than at HBS.
She founded Ranch Road Boots in 2012 with $60K she had saved from her previous jobs. Her boots were inspired by her grandfather, "Daddy Tom," of San Angelo, TX. Her mission is to create leather goods with style & quality that can last forever.
She also gives back to the Injured Marines Semper Fi Fund with every pair sold.
She waited until after becoming an entrepreneur to have her two daughters - she says if she could do it all over again, she would have had her children at a much younger age! She explained it to me like this: “Your life and career don’t get less complicated with time, and you can’t put it off until you retire when things slow down!”
She's incredibly unique and offers an amazing perspective about various aspects of life, business and entrepreneurship.

Here is what we discussed on this episode:

    * How Sarah began her entrepreneurial journey (at a very young age)
    * Why Sarah chose to go to Harvard Business School, after serving two military tours in the Marines
    * What experiences from her youth inspired her to create a brand focused on quality
    * The reason Sarah and Ranch Road Boots donate to the Injured Marines Sempre Fi Fund

Welcome to Episode 061, of the Self Made Strategies Podcast, with Logan Sneed, of Fusion Lean, Fitpreneur Academy, and Author of the Book: "Thank You, Cancer"

Here's Logan's background from Episode 053 of our podcast, as well as Logan's YouTube channel:
Logan went from high school athlete and college freshmen to a stage four Glioblastoma patient overnight.  Essentially that’s brain cancer for those of us who are not doctors. Doctors told Logan he wouldn’t survive his diagnosis, and even if he did, Logan would never have the quality of life he wanted.  Logan refused to believe that. Each time someone told Logan he couldn’t do something, he used it as fuel to prove them wrong. Today, Logan is a 23 year old fitness entrepreneur making a six-figure income in remission and inspiring the world with this story of beating the odds in his new book: Thank you, Cancer: 30 Days to Realize Nothing Is Impossible, out NOW.  Logan challenges us to thank the obstacles that get in our way. In the book, he asks, could you write a letter to your weight, to your debt, to your business? Could you thank it for making you grow? Can you find room to become happier, to enjoy the present and to face the fear and doubt that has held you back by thanking our obstacles?

Logan says: we can become CEO of our lives and the best version of ourselves.

    (Here is his YouTube video)

Want the TRUTH about COVID-19?  Listen to this episode of the Self Made Strategies Podcast
This episode is a special release meant to help flatten the COVID-19 curve in two ways:

First, the main message of this episode is to follow the advice of your local government as well as that of Dr. Krys Johnson, an Epidemiologist who also worked in Polk County, Florida, during the Zika crisis. Secondly, we are trying to help flatten the curve of current COVID-19 pandemic MISinformation, to ensure that you are getting the true facts.
    ABOUT Krys Johnson

She interned at the Georgia Department of Public Health and then served as an Emerging Infectious Disease Fellow at the Florida Department of Health, stationed in Polk County from July 2015 to August 2016, during the height of the Zika outbreak.

Dr. Johnson's research interests are in mitigating health disparities through community-based participatory research and culturally appropriate behavioral interventions. Her teaching goal is to ensure that students understand the practical applications of epidemiology and biostatistics and can critically review news or journal articles. She seeks to motivate students to realize their own potential and to use that potential to positively impact the world around them.

  • 058: SPECIAL COVID-19 RELEASE Rob Lawless of Robs10kFriends
Welcome to a very SPECIAL RELEASE of the Self Made Strategies Podcast.
This episode is particularly special for a couple of reasons:

First, despite the strangeness of current events, and the current state of the world, we need some positive and entertaining stories to keep us going.  Most importantly, we are all currently undergoing a very trying time (the COVID-19 pandemic and isolation of March 2020).  Stressful times like these call for, now more than ever, beacon's of light in the darkness.  Rob Lawless, and his quest to meet and share the stories of 10,000 new people, may be that beacon.

Secondly, it's actually the Self Made Strategies first anniversary!  One year ago, we launched our podcast, hoping to bring you engaging stories from amazing entrepreneurs and innovators.  We hope that you have enjoyed our show, and look forward to continuing to grow and bring you amazing entrepreneurial content.

We hope you enjoy his story, and message of overcoming adversity using a pragmatic approach and positive thinking.
    About Robs10kFriends (From Rob's bio at www.robs10kfriends.com)
back in may of 2013 Rob graduated Summa cum laude from Penn state university with a degree in finance and minors in accounting and entrepreneurship. After graduation, Rob began his career with Deloitte consulting as a business analyst in strategy and operations.

It was his reach job at the time, but about a year and a half into it, Rob pulled the millennial move and took a large pay cut, left the PowerPoint decks in spreadsheets for the laid back $24 million venture funded RJ metrics while at RJ. Rob worked as a sales rep where he cold emailed people every day asking them to hop on the phone for 30 minutes to chat about their product.

His job being in sales, he often received responses like the following actual replies:

    * “Take me off your mailing list, cockroach”
    * “I understand that this is your job. This being said. If asking a girl out for coffee and she ignores you twice and finally says no, you do NOT ask whether this is a no just now or a now forever – and you certainly do not ask her why you are not her type” (Disclaimer: he has never used this strategy on girls)
    * “Not interested (and you’re really starting to annoy me)”

So along with a bunch of those factors that Rob mentions in his first blog post, he started this project to see if he could meet with people to chat for an hour for absolutely no reason. And held his first meeting on November 11th of 2015 he was rejected way less. The responses were all positive and encouraging, and he's met some amazing people with incredible backgrounds.

Who would all consider themselves normal. On Monday, June 20th of 2016 RJ metrics was acquired by a larger company, which no longer needed Rob's position, so Rob dove in full time on his endeavor to meet 10,000 different people for an hour each. Since then, Rob's met over 3,200 people, as we said. As of right now, that's March of 2020 across 20 cities in the United States and Canada.

And has driven across the United States six separate times and has even been featured by some awesome press sources, including Ryan's Seacrest on his nationally syndicated radio show on air with Ryan Seacrest as well as your morning, a national Canadian morning show. Rob loves adventure and loves potential.

Over the last three and a half years or so, he's found this project to have had both, so he's been greatly satisfied with how it's gone so far and can't wait to continue giving it his 110% to see where it takes him in the future. The last thought is he's had great experiences meeting new people, so if you feel so inclined.

Give it a try and let him know how it goes for you.
