We've all experienced self-sabotage, that nagging little voice in your own head that tells you that you're an imposter, that you are a fake, that you can't accomplish anything worthwhile. Too often, we just plod away with that in the back of our minds hoping it will go away. But it won't - and it will keep us from moving forward in life in a positive way.
On this episode, I want to walk you through the ways that my self-sabotage shows up and explain to you what I'm learning to do about it. If I don't take it on, don't do what I can to take it down, it will rule me. And I don't want to be ruled by anyone or anything other than my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Listen to hear my struggle. My hope is that it will help you with yours.
Where are those self-sabotaging voices coming from? Do you know?Have you ever given thought to where your condemning, self-sabotaging thoughts come from? They don't come from you, although most of us think that they do. My wife sent me a text that was very helpful in this regard. It highlighted how to notice the type of things the enemy (Satan) says to us, compared to the type of things God says to us.
These types of thoughts are from the enemy: Obsession, worries, condemnation, discouragement, confusion, fear, rush/hurry.
These type of thoughts are from God: Calming, comforting, convicting, encouraging, enlightening, leading, reassuring.
Which are YOU experiencing more? What are you doing about the negative ones?
Learn to evaluate the story you are telling yourself about youAll of us grow up thinking a certain way about ourselves. It comes from the way we were raised, the experiences we've had, etc. We think that way about ourselves for so long we start to believe it's the truth. But it's not. Nobody knows the truth about you, not even you. Nobody that is, except for your Creator. He understands you perfectly and has made you uniquely to be unlike anyone else. THAT is how you need to think about yourself.
You need to begin evaluating what you think about yourself. You need to deconstruct it, find out where it's coming from, and jettison the stuff that isn't true. But don't just leave a vacuum in your soul, replace those lies with the truth that God says about you. On this episode, I highlight a handful of ways you can do that on a daily basis. Don't miss it.
The consistency of good habits is the key to all successWhatever you're trying to do in life, you need to build habits around it. Habits are what will get you there. When it comes to undoing the habit of self-sabotage, you need to start building habits of encouragement, thankfulness, gratitude, and journaling into your day. As you work on self-improvement you'll find that the self-sabotaging habits of the past start to melt away from disuse.
This episode is going to show you how to get started. It's straight from my life, things I'm learning in my own battle against the negative thoughts I have daily. I hope you listen and I hope my story can help you get your self-defeating thoughts under control.
When you know what God says about you, it doesn't matter what others say about youMany of us have bad thoughts about ourselves because someone else said those things about us in the past - maybe it was a teacher, or coach, or parent. It doesn't matter who it was that said it, it matters what you're going to do about it. When you know what God says about you, it doesn't matter what anyone else has to say about you. And it doesn't matter when they said it - in the past or in the present.
Listen to this episode, I point out a few of the resources I use on a daily basis to help me know the truth about myself from God's perspective. I wouldn't be able to live out the success I have without it.
