Recorded around this time last year (2020) after first encountering her at a Women's Day Event by The Vibe Tribe - Riya Chandiramani shares how she overcame ‘Definition by Numbers’, and through some guidance from her Grandmother, dug deep and transformed inner demons into Art that is both powerful and purposeful.
Riya Chandiramani's paintings explore bold ideas in today's society with intricacy and wit. Referencing iconography from both traditional and popular cultures, Riya's art consistently reminds us of how far we as a society have come, and how, in certain areas, we have a long way to go. Riya's mission is to bridge ideas of the past with modern times, whilst challenging constructs and ideals that have keep our civilization divided and inhibit us from recognizing our true worth. Her current series explores the censorship, sexualization and creative powers of the female body.
Riya is based in Hong Kong, where she was raised. She studied communication and art at the University of Pennsylvania. Follow Riya's visual Journey @riyachandiramani, on her website and her current work with Young Soy Gallery.
