For whatever reason, we decide that we can only have one thing at a time. A fulfilling career or a nurtured family. A healthy lifestyle or a fun lifestyle. Freedom or a fabulous relationship. A dream lifestyle or money in the bank.

It’s like we can’t imagine being able to have all of our desires, so we tell ourselves we have to choose. 

Choosing between all of the things we want is hard. And we want to make the right choice, in order to protect ourselves from the risk of failure or disappointment. So we turn ‘not choosing’ into a protective behaviour, which in turn gets us stuck.

But there is another option.

Many of us live our lives on auto-pilot.

It's a long way from the conscious, curated, memorable and fulfilled lives that we would love to be living.

I first became really tapped into the idea of living with more intention and less auto-pilot years ago after we'd been travelling. After being in France and coming back to Melbourne I noticed that everything was straightforward and effortless, it just didn't require the same thought that being in France does for me.

This realisation reinforced for me the fact that we spend much of our time living unconsciously and coasting through on auto-pilot.

I prefer my life when I'm forced to think, when I'm challenged and when life isn't simply passing me by.

I have lots of things sorted... and then there's everything else.

The everything else is why I'll continue working with coaches and mentors.

Back in 2018 in my corporate job, I was running the teams responsible for implementing projects into businesses, and the whole organisation was undergoing a large scale transformation, and it made sense that we would be absorbed into the transformation environment.

Now I did one thing back then, that I always encourage others to avoid...I downplayed my extensive knowledge, experience and skills which ultimately led to to going against my instincts and setting up teams and systems in a way I knew was unlikely to work - and did in fact turn out to be less than the brilliant success that was hoped for.

Back to the present day, and the past few weeks in the same organisation has seen more teams come into the business and the suggestion was made to implement a structure that looks remarkably similar to what we did back in 2018.

So in today's episode - What you can learn from my BIG self-doubt moment I'm diving into this situation, how I handled my self-doubt and the lessons that you can take away from it (and there's quite a few!)
