Did you miss us? We recorded two podcast episodes back in November of 2022, but never really got around to dropping them. In this episode, we talk about some of the businesses that closed in Worcester's Canal District, Ricky's lack of respect for the Sex Pistols, and probably much more. In early 2022, Julie was named the new Executive Director of the CASA Project, a not-for-profit organization of Court Appointed Special Advocates that are committed to speaking for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the Worcester County Courts. Julie comes from a family created primarily through foster care and adoption which has impacted her passion for child welfare and healthy and happy long-term outcomes for vulnerable youth. We learn about the hard work they’re doing and the exciting Champions for Children fundraiser celebration they have coming up.

Adael is proud to be from Worcetser. He has been writing and creating for as long as he can remember. What started as an interest in hip hop has blossomed into the opportunity oof a lifetime. Following his graduation from Burncoat High, Adael joined the City's first Create 508 program, where he found a passion for developing youth artists and growing the community. Adael looks forward to working with young people, including those in mental health and rehabilitation programs, in his two-year term as Youth Poet Laureate.

A lot is happening at 44 King St in Worcester, Massachusetts. Sha-Asia Medina, along with a group of amazing people, took ownership of a long-standing community space in the middle of the pandemic. Through hard work and tough conversations, they’re continuing to create a place for learning, love, and respect, better known as The Village. This Afrocentric cultural, learning & healing center in the Main South neighborhood sounds like a giant facility, but is really just a triple decker they transform to suit their needs. Learn about how they connect BIPOC groups, healers, and individuals whose work is rooted in racial justice, learning, creativity, and community.

Kate Rush loves everything buttery but homestyle biscuits are her jam! She started making biscuits for friends as part of a pairing with Morgan’s Famous Gravy ™. Thanks to some stimulus cash from Uncle Sam and with the support of the Worcester Food Hub, she’s been able to take her biscuits on the road. We learn about the challenges of being a food entrepreneur including what it’s like to sell biscuits at a punk show and what delicious concoctions are still to come.

The Jane Fund of Central Massachusetts is dedicated to funding and supporting abortion access in Central Massachusetts and beyond.
