  • Devo 88: Does God Work in Impossible
The devotional centers on the miraculous deliverance of Peter from prison in Acts 12, illustrating God's sovereign power to intervene in seemingly impossible situations. Through the unexpected intervention of an angel, God answers the church's fervent prayers in a way that defies human expectation, emphasizing that divine action often transcends our limited understanding. The passage underscores the importance of surrendering our circumstances to God without prescribing how He should act, trusting in His wisdom and timing even when answers are not immediate or conventional. It calls believers to cultivate a posture of faith, peace, and joyful surrender, recognizing that God's answers—whether affirmative, delayed, or transformative—are always aligned with His greater glory. Ultimately, the message affirms that God is actively at work through spiritual forces, including angels, even when unseen, and invites believers to trust His sovereignty in prayer.

  • 317. Calvin Against the Calvinists, And Why the Scholars Got It Wrong
For much of the 20th century, many academic theologians operated on the assumption that Calvin's successors (Beza, the Westminster Divines, the scholastic tradition) had in some ways betrayed him and traded a warm, Christ-centered theology for cold, rationalistic system-building. Then Richard Muller spent decades in the primary sources and found the picture was substantially wrong. In this final episode of What Did Calvin Actually Say?, Jared sits down with Dr. Cornelis Venema to untangle one of Reformed theology's most consequential scholarly debates and to ask what it means to stand at the end of a tradition rather than cherry-picking a moment from it.

  • 3 How to Read the Signs of the End – Mark 13:5-8
What does Jesus want Christians to think when wars, earthquakes, famines, persecution, and false teachers dominate the headlines? In Mark 13:5-8, Jesus gives His disciples a crucial warning: "Watch out that no one deceives you," and "do not be alarmed." He describes a period called the "beginning of pains"—a time when His followers will face deception, disasters, and persecution while continuing the mission of preaching the gospel to the nations. In this study of Mark 13:5-8, we examine what Jesus meant by the beginning of pains and whether these events point to the destruction of Jerusalem, the Second Coming, or an unfolding prophetic process that began in the first century and continues until Christ returns. My sermons are the fruit of nearly 30 years of pastoral ministry, biblical counseling, formal seminary training, and a lifelong passion for God's Word. Since childhood, I've been drawn to the beauty and power of expository preaching—opening Scripture verse by verse and applying it to real life. After graduating from Moody Bible Institute, I spent the next 27 years serving as a youth pastor, senior pastor, church planter, and host of the Food For Your Soul radio broadcast. Along the way, I also earned a Master of Sacred Literature and a Doctor of Religious Studies. For more content from D. Richard Ferguson, visit TreasuringGod.com.
