  • To Be Approved To God
We are into a section of God's word that has, in practice in most churches and tragically across entire denominations, been forgotten or ignored in our generation. It has become the norm to think that in order for the Church of our Lord Jesus Christ to grow, we have to be innovative in what we do. Many seminaries have been telling students to figure out what the felt needs of people are, and to build a ministry around meeting those needs. That pragmatic mindset tragically ignores the fact that God's word tells us what our real need is, and it is not what most people "feel." The truth is that it doesn't matter what I feel. What matters is that I understand my need to be reconciled to God from whom I am alienated by sin. This portion of God's word, indeed the whole book of 2 Timothy, is not hard to understand. It's not esoteric. It's not abstract. It is bold and direct, and it tells us what God wants from His Church and its leaders. Church is not meant to entertain, and it's not meant primarily to address unbelievers. It is for the people of God to worship Him in spirit and in truth, so they are equipped to take the gospel to the world. As we have been seeing paragraph by paragraph, there are direct and clear commands we must heed. In our passage, there are four more imperatives which help frame it for us. If you ever wonder what is required to be approved to God, you need wonder no more. The answer is in our passage, which is built around the four imperatives. 1 - Remind (14) 2 - Be Diligent (15) 3 - Avoid (16-18) 4 - Abstain (19)

  • 313. Chosen by Grace, Called to Humility
What happens when Christians forget that grace, not merit, is the foundation of election? In this concluding conversation with Dr. Alan Strange, we move from theology to public life and explore how the doctrine of election dismantles pride, reshapes political engagement, and calls believers to a posture of humility. As debates over nationalism, identity, and power continue to intensify, Dr. Strange argues that the church's greatest need is not political triumph but faithful Christian witness rooted in the unchanging love of God. And as the series closes, and before MarsCast takes a brief summer hiatus, returning in August 2026, we lift our eyes beyond every earthly nation to the coming kingdom that puts all politics in its proper perspective.

  • 4 Voter Corruption Mark 12:14-17 (continued)
We all oppose corrupt politicians. But have you ever considered what it means to be corruption-free as a voter? What is your responsibility before God in the ballot box? Most believers recognize corruption when politicians use government power for personal gain. But what happens when ordinary citizens use their vote to do the same thing? In this message, we explore a challenging biblical principle: every act of government is backed by coercive authority, and every voter in a democratic republic wields a small portion of that power. Drawing from Scripture's teaching on the God-ordained role of government, we'll examine the moral implications of taxation, wealth redistribution, government benefits, and voting. My sermons are the fruit of nearly 30 years of pastoral ministry, biblical counseling, formal seminary training, and a lifelong passion for God's Word. Since childhood, I've been drawn to the beauty and power of expository preaching—opening Scripture verse by verse and applying it to real life. After graduating from Moody Bible Institute, I spent the next 27 years serving as a youth pastor, senior pastor, church planter, and host of the Food For Your Soul radio broadcast. Along the way, I also earned a Master of Sacred Literature and a Doctor of Religious Studies. For more content from D. Richard Ferguson, visit TreasuringGod.com.
