What is the greatest thing a human being could ever do? Of all God's commandments, which one matters most? In Mark 12:28–31, a scribe asks Jesus one of the most important questions in all of Scripture: "Which commandment is the most important?" Jesus' answer reveals the greatest priority in the Christian life—not ministry success, not religious activity, not even loving your neighbor, but loving God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. But what role do emotions play in obeying that command? Many get this wrong. We examine Jesus' teaching on the Greatest Commandment, why love for God comes before every other duty, and how the first commandment gives meaning to every other command in Scripture. Autobiographical Sketch: "Hello! My name is Janson Slaughter, and I am going into my third year of the M.Div degree at RTS Orlando this coming fall. I have been married to my lovely wife, Maggie, for almost 4 years this coming October, and we are expecting our first child in late-November! We are both from the North Georgia area, we met at Berry College (Rome, GA), we moved to Orlando in 2022 to work for a college ministry at UCF (WinShape), and after that, God called us to attend seminary to further equip us for ministry. We currently attend and are on staff at Lake Baldwin Church (PCA) where Maggie is the youth coordinator and I serve with both the youth and on our liturgy/worship team.
