Episode One of the Semper Try Podcast launches on the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. In this episode, Bill shares the personal story behind the name Semper Try—inspired by the Marine Corps motto Semper Fidelis and built on the belief that trying beats quitting.
Bill walks through his journey from high school to becoming a Marine Corps F/A-18 mechanic, including boot camp setbacks, perseverance through injury, overseas service in Japan, reserve unit in San Diego, and his firsthand experience during 9/11.
Beyond military service, this episode explores life after the uniform—coaching high school clay target shooting, volunteering in the community, leading with the Brainerd Jaycees, launching youth sports fundraisers, and serving on the Brainerd American Legion board.
This episode sets the foundation for the Semper Try Podcast: real stories from veterans, coaches, volunteers, and community leaders who continue to serve, lead, and show up every day.
Semper Try—because trying beats quitting.
