In the 90s a novel space opened up on line with the increasing availability of internet relay chat (IRC). Alex explains some of the surprises he encountered, including discovering more about the anonymous people hosting community chatgroups.
For those who wanted to meet face to face, opportunities existed in private homes, and one of these, the Forbidden Fruit self-help group, proved to be a powerful place which enabled the sharing of personal stories, in a way which PLU had not. Alex tells us more.
