At the Labor party’s launch over the weekend, former Prime Minister Paul Keating claimed Australia’s security agencies are run by a clique of “berko nutters” that just don’t get how wonderful Communist China really is.

All of this forced Bill shorten to qualify his adoration of Keating’s advice just 24 hours later.

Speaking to the media yesterday, a less exuberant opposition leader said “Paul Keating is an elder statement of Australian politics. He’s never been shy of saying what he thinks but we’ve worked very well with the national security agencies and of course we will continue that.
