We hear about their work at the University of Wisconsin, their advocacy for Gays and Lesbians, and their history with nonviolent movements around the world. In the second segment we talk with Pat Guttenberg and Janet Weitz from the Madison Senior Center about upcoming events.

This month on Senior Beat we are joined by two members of RSVP of Dane County, Gene Kundert and Akeem Torres, to talk about their driver services program. In the second segment we talk to Nino Amato to hear about how changes to the Wisconsin state budget may affect senior services and about the upcoming CWAG conference in May at Monona Terrace.

In the first segment we are joined by Professor Carol Ryff, who tells us about the University of Wisconsin Madison’s institute on Aging. Misty Lohrentz, the Community Events Coordinator at Monona Terrace, and Pat Guttenberg, the Program Coordinator at the Madison Senior Center, tell us about Full Speed Ahead After 50, a full day of events at Monona Terrace on March 17, 2011.

In the first segment on this episode of Senior Beat we talk about the Senior Center Appraisal Fair, with guests Rick Orton and Shirley Bauman. They introduce the Antiques Appraisal Fair to be held at the Madison Senior Center on March 20. Shirley gives an example of the type of appraisal one might expect by commenting on two or three items during the program. Lori Chapman of Segues joins us on our second segment when we talk about out possessions and the accumulation of 'stuff'. We identify the different types of ‘stuff’ and determine various strategies for handling it, and talk about some of the reasons older adults have difficulties managing their accumulated possessions.

This month on Senior Beat our hosts were joined by Fran Genter from the Dane County Dept. of Human Services and Donna McDowell from the state Dept. of Health Services to talk about Long Term Care options and services available to seniors

This month on Senior Beat we were joined by Dr. Andy Kosseff (co-chair of United Way Falls Prevention Task Force) and Dr. Kay Heggestad will talk about falls prevention.  The discussion will highlight the damage caused by falls in the older population and will emphasize prevention strategies.

Next, hosts Christine Beatty and Helen Aarli welcome Kari Trapskin is Director of Health Care Quality Initiatives for the Pharmacy Society of WI to the show. They talk about adverse drug reactions, which also impact the potential of accidents. They also learn about prescriptions and their impact on an older adult is essential to avoid the unseen hazards of adverse drug reactions.

This month on Senior Beat we were joined by Patricia Guttenberg, the Program Coordinator at the Madison Senior Center, to talk about the annual holiday Festival of Wreath; and by Lorretta Himmelsbach, the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired, and Jean Kalscheur, a Vision Rehabilitation Teacher, to talk about vision issues and how they affect seniors.
