The Mayors of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns, and Whitsundays have written to the Premier to enforce a 'bed tax' for tourists visiting Queensland. 

 This is not a new idea, as many countries around the world are taxing tourists.

Sofie Formica said on 4BC Afternoons, "But in my mind the visitor levy should not be viewed as a punishment."

"In a nutshell, if we want tourism to thrive for generations we need the funds to do that, and this is a smart and sensible step forward," Sofie continued.
