We are often asked, "how much time should I spend working on content for my own site vs. building links to my content?" Assuming you are an SEO agency or in-house SEO/webmaster for one or several sites for a company, there is no hard and fast rule as to what time should be spent in content production vs. content promotion and link building. However, a general 50/50 rule is not a bad idea.
That is, 50% of your time should be spent creating stellar content and the other 50% of it should be spent promoting that piece of content, recognizing that only a portion of that time is spent in link building outreach. The rest is more likely to be spent writing even more content that includes relevant, quality backlinks.
As an SEO, how do you split your time between on-site content marketing/writing and off-site link building? We would love to hear!
