Sleep affects everything, from your energy and mood to cognitive function and immune health which is why it is such a critical part of a well-rounded self-care routine.

Getting the right amount of sleep is linked to a lower risk of chronic illness like heart disease and diabetes and helps build resilience to stress. 

CEO of Healthy Minds Debbie Childs told Dean Miller on 4BC Breakfast, "The average adult is between seven and nine hours, that's the recommended amount."

"It does vary as you get older, it does tend to reduce slightly."

"However, I think each person needs to find the right amount of sleep for themselves as well and putting good practices in place to be able to find that," Mrs Childs said.
