In the Bible the Greek word translated “Forgiveness” literally means “to let go” such as when a person does not demand payment for a debt.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean that the hurt doesn’t exist, or that it doesn’t matter, nor does it make everything all right. Rather it allows you to “let go” of the hurt and let God deal with the one you may be feeling unforgiveness toward.

James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

Matthew 11:28-29 Come to me all of you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.

As we begin to conclude our series on the Holy Spirit, we will continue to answer some questions.  One of the more solemn (scary?) themes in the Bible concern the sins against the Holy Spirit.  What is the nature of these sins and how can we guard ourselves against committing them?

“How Can I Live a Spirit-filled Life?”

Galatians 5:16-26

We are filled with the Spirit when we invite Jesus to be our Lord and Savior.  We are controlled by the Spirit when we daily/hourly yield ourselves to the Spirit’s control!!

In our study of the Holy Spirit we’ve learned that God is three persons (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit).  Each of these three are fully God and yet there is one God.  This is what is referred to as the Trinity of the Godhead.

We also learned the job description of the Holy Spirit (conviction, drawing, regeneration, adoption, indwelling, sanctification, interceding, comforting, preserving and ultimately, glorification).

For the remainder of our study we will answer some common questions concerning the Holy Spirit.

·        What is the Baptism by the Holy Spirit?

·        How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?

·        What are the sins against the Holy Spirit?

·        What are the gifts of the Holy Spirit?

·        What are the fruits of the Holy Spirit?

Very simply put, Baptism by the Holy Spirit is placing the believer into union with Christ as the head of the church and union with others forming the body of the church.
