Paul gives instruction to Timothy regarding behavior and the offices of the local church. In this section Paul givers the qualifications for the deacon - they are given so that the church may recognize the man called to this office and because of the temptations and trials of this service.

The reason why believers are no longer in debt to the flesh is no given. They owe the flesh nothing because they have been adopted into a new family. Believers have a new relationship with God as their Father and they have the rights and privileges of sonship.

Paul demonstrates that believers are not debtors to the flesh and shows the reasons why this is so. Believers are compelled to fight against remaining sin and put it to death as we grow in our sanctification

Paul explains what it means to walk in the flesh or walk in the Spirit. Believers are "in the Spirit" because the Spirit dwells in them and they have been transformed. The new heart desires Christ and believers set their minds on the things of the Spirit

Paul not only shows that there is no condemnation to the one who is in Christ, but he also tells us why there can be no condemnation for one who has been born again.

Paul follows on the heels of describing the battle with sin to say that there is no condemnation for those in Christ. There is no verdict of condemnation against believers, nor is there an existence under condemnation for those in Christ.

Jesus, after his encounter with the woman at the well, takes the opportunity to teach the disciples the importance and characteristics of the mission.

One of the most difficult texts in the NT. Paul shows the believer that there is a war between the flesh and the "inner man." This is the normal Christian life. There is a battle that rages until we see Jesus. The Believer desires to keep God's law perfectly, but the ability to do so is simply not within his power.

Paul demonstrates that the law is not the problem. The law is holy and righteous. Our sin is the problem. The law is necessary for the Christian life. The law reveals the presence and power of sin. The law brings us to the end of self, and the law shows the sinfulness of sin

Paul continues teaching how believers walk in the gospel of grace. The end of chapter six showed us what it means to live under grace. Now Paul returns to show the church what it means that we do not live under the law.
