Having sung in response to the Lord’s deliverance, the Israelites now face hardship in the desert. Exodus 16 will remind us that God is our gracious provider. Even when we grumble, He meets His people in kindness. Most importantly, we will see how the manna in the desert points us towards the real “bread of heaven”, the Lord Jesus. We look forward to gathering for the first Lord’s Day of 2022. We will return to our study of the book of Exodus, looking at the song in chapter 15. Why are the Israelites singing? What model does this provide for the church? Hopefully we will have a greater appreciation for praising God for His steadfast love.

God With Us: Divine Interuptions

As we approach the celebration of the incarnation, may we stay focused on God’s dwelling with us. In recent weeks we have examined God’s appearing in fire, as a warrior, and as exalted king. This Christmas Eve we return again to the most important truth in the world, that God appeared as a person – the Lord Jesus – to show us what He is like. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow night at 4p or 6p for our family carol service.

As we enter the fourth week of Advent, we will continue to think about the implications of God being with us. Having looked at God’s appearing in the garden of Eden, in fire, and as a warrior, we will now examine God’s appearances as an enthroned king. What does it mean to have God as our king? How refreshing for the saints to know that our Lord will vindicate His people. As always, the sermon notes and service order are below.

As we celebrate the third week of Advent as a church family, we will continue to think about how often and in what ways God appears among His people. Having looked at God appearing as fire last week, this week we will see His appearing as a warrior. What does it mean to say that God fights for His people? What does this mean for our church? Most importantly, we will see how God triumphed over the powers of darkness by sending forth His Son.

This week in Exodus we come to the famous crossing of the Red Sea. As we read chapter 14, we will see how Israel is taught to “fear God” rather than material obstacles.
