Who’s fit to follow Jesus? That’s a question people have been confused about for years. In this message, we’ll sit in on a moment when Jesus tries to make the answer clear to a man named Simon.
Sin is a chronic situation, bringing about all sorts of pain and hurt in the world. We often try to solve this problem by being and doing the right Christian stuff to be right with God. However, Jesus says that we’re only deceiving ourselves: the only real freedom to be found is by abiding in the truth of His promises. The story of Jesus has never been about who you are, it’s always been about abiding in who Jesus is.
18 years. That's how long his people have suffered under the hand of a gluttonous tyrant. They've deserved it, sure, but now--finally--God gives him permission to put the bullying to an end.
Have you ever prayed for Jesus to return? The earliest Christians did quite often. But why? Why would someone want to speed up the Second Coming? In this message, we'll explore the answer.
Our prayer lives are often centered around us, but this week we explore not only what it means to really pray for others...but what the world really needs the most. We need to make the spiritual health of others our main priority. Our preaching intern, Jacob Miller, helps us to explore what it means to pray "Bless Them" in a way we may have never considered before.
This week, our preaching minister, Justin Gerhardt sat down with Priscilla Black, a local pastor at Faith 4 Life Church to have a conversation about what it looks like to faithfully respond to the evils of racism and injustice experienced by Black Americans. Priscilla invites to us to hear the stories of the oppressed, to respond individually through immersion and education and to pray together, “Lord, by your power, fix it”.
As we continue to consider how we can influence real change in the world as Christ followers, Justin encourages us to recognize that without prayer, change is not going to happen in you and in us. Even more, Justin points us to the reality that all we have to do is to ask God to give us something we need to be different, to be wise, to be outside our comfort zone and to be brave! If you want to ask God to move you in the right direction, to get you where you're not, take a chance at this simple prayer for transformation, "Push Me"!. It's a guaranteed yes from God.
At this time, many of us are wondering and crying out to God, "How do we change things? and how do we change us?" Now what if I was to tell you that the heart of the problem for each of us and this world, the pain we are experiencing right now all centers around the reality that we don't love God hardly as much as we should. While this is true and it may be discouraging, there is a solution to this problem and there is one great first step to try and solve it. That monumental step towards being changed is a simple and dynamic prayer.
Join us this week as we grapple with the tough concepts of heaven, hell, and judgment.
We're all interested in what happens after we die. But what if we've got it all wrong?
