Mephibosheth was the last remaining descendant of Jonathan, David’s friend and Saul’s son, who died in battle next to Saul. Jonathan and David had entered a covenant together, Jonathan knowing David would be king after Saul and not himself. David seeks out Mephibosheth, who has been ‘lame in his feet’ since childhood and fearful of David. When David calls for him, instead of his great fears being realized Mephibosheth receives a great blessing from the King!
