  • “Toxic Sheep” – November 22, 2020
Rev. Mia McClain | Matthew 25:31-46“For I was hungry and you told me to pull myself up by the bootstraps. For I was thirsty and you let me drink poisoned water for 7 years. I was unemployed and you evicted me in the middle of a pandemic. I was cold and you cut off my heat during the winter storm.” “Having compassion for the poor and disenfranchised means empowering grass-roots organizing. It means organizing poor people to organize themselves. It means fighting with, not on behalf of. It means restructuring our businesses so that we pay our employees a true living wage instead of engaging in the Philanthropy Olympics. It means those who have been victims of the intersecting injustices can one day say: I was hungry and you fought for a grocery store to be put in my neighborhood.,I was thirsty, and in addition to sending bottled water, you stayed on the necks of the local and state officials until the Flint River was detoxified. I was housing insecure and you demanded a moratorium on evictions. I was in prison for a selling a now decriminalized substance and you demanded my release as an act of restitution.” – Rev. Mia McClain
