The “Old Man” wrote another letter. Last week, we said that the author of 2 John and 3 John–who I believe is also the author of 1 John and the Gospel of John and the Book of Revelation– refers himself as “The Elder.”   Pastor Matt Mitchell preaching on 3 John 1:1-14 Full manuscript available on Pastor Matt’s blog You can…

The post To My Dear Friend Gaius :: January 12, 2025 appeared first on Lanse Free Church :: Lanse, PA.

A few years ago, we studied 1 John together, but we have never studied 2 and or 3 John during my time as your pastor. So I thought it was high time we did that at the beginning of this year. This week, we’ll study 2 John, and next week, Lord-willing, we’ll look at 3 John. A…

The post To the Chosen Lady and Her Children :: January 5, 2025 appeared first on Lanse Free Church :: Lanse, PA.

Our first message in this series went almost back to the very beginning of the Bible, the Law of Moses, Numbers chapter 24. Our second message was drawn from the highpoint middle of the Bible, the Gospel accounts. Matthew chapter 2. This last message comes from the culmination, the very end of the Bible. The Revelation of Jesus…

The post The Bright Morning Star – December 29, 2024 appeared first on Lanse Free Church :: Lanse, PA.

Last Sunday, we started a very short sermon series called “The Bright Star of Bethlehem.” We turned way back to the Book of Numbers and studied that enigmatic prophecy, where under the influence of the Holy Spirit, the pagan prophet Balaam squinted down the corridors of time and saw the coming of a Star. Balaam said,…

The post We Saw His Star – December 22, 2024 appeared first on Lanse Free Church :: Lanse, PA.

If I were tell you that, today, we’re going to read a story in the Bible about a star, a donkey, a pagan magi-ician from the East, the Angel of the Lord appearing, a king in Israel, and the pronouncement of an ancient prophecy, where in the Bible would you expect us to be?   Pastor…

The post I See Him, But Not Now – December 15, 2024 appeared first on Lanse Free Church :: Lanse, PA.

The Gospel of John began with a prologue. An amazing summary statement foreshadowing what was to come, John 1:1-18. The Gospel of John ends with an epilogue that ties up loose ends, carries the story up past its conclusion, and sets up what was going to happen next. Pastor Matt Mitchell preaching on John 21:1-25…

The post It is the Lord! – December 8, 2024 appeared first on Lanse Free Church :: Lanse, PA.

The title for this message just jumped off the page at me because Jesus says it three times in this one short passage. Verse 19, verse 21, and again in verse 26. “Peace Be With You!” Pastor Matt Mitchell preaching on John 20:19-31 Full manuscript available on Pastor Matt’s blog You can listen here or “Right-Click”…

The post Peace Be With You! – December 1, 2024 appeared first on Lanse Free Church :: Lanse, PA.

Jesus was dead and buried. For the last several weeks, we’ve been reading how our Lord Jesus was betrayed in the darkness, arrested in the darkness, interrogated, denied, slapped around, drug around from court to court, mocked, scourged, shamed, and executed.   Pastor Matt Mitchell preaching on John 20:1-18 Full manuscript available on Pastor Matt’s blog You can…

The post While It Was Still Dark – November 24, 2024 appeared first on Lanse Free Church :: Lanse, PA.

The title of this message comes from the mouth of Pontius Pilate in chapter 19, verse 14. We’re going to see that he didn’t really mean it. Pilate didn’t really believe that Jesus was the king or he wouldn’t have sent Jesus to the Cross! But you and I know that Jesus is the King…

The post Here Is Your King – November 10, 2024 appeared first on Lanse Free Church :: Lanse, PA.

In John 18, we’re in the night before the Cross. Jesus has met with His disciples, washed their feet, given them the Farewell Teachings, and prayed the Real Lord’s Prayer, His great prayer of consecration. Praying for His glory to be restored (and one day seen), for protection for His disciples, and for their unity…
