- Gideon’s Army ‐ The Original 300

“Pick me, pick me, pick me!”…well, not exactly. Gideon heard from an Angel, and still tried two separate tests to prove it was not him that God wanted. In the story of Gideon, God shows His willingness to humor our self-doubts while He continues to work out a scenario where we - in our weakness - can still be used to serve His kingdom and glorify Him. As Pastor Doug brings this series to a close, he re-introduces us to this story and reminds us that we are all capable of becoming the next Felt Board Superstar.

When you take a stand for God, you will be tested. But, if you stand your ground, you will be strengthened and God will be glorified. - Jacob

The story of Jacob - renamed “Israel” by God and the one whose sons became the head of the 12 tribes of the Israeli nation - is another one whose story you may have seen on the felt board as a child; however, you probably did not really get the full story then. Jacob was at odds with his twin brother, his father, and his uncle. In brief terms, he made more enemies than friends and his ambition often alienated those around him. And yet...when this imperfect person encountered God, he held on and would not let go, and God honored his tenacity by blessing him. Pastor Doug encourages us that, like Jacob, we need to hang onto God and not let go, no matter what our circumstances.

The Impossible Becomes Possible

With God, all things are possible. There is no better testimony to this fact anywhere than in the story of Abraham and Sarah. In this sermon, pastor Doug continues with the beloved story of Abraham as he continues to face impossible situations, while trusting fully in God’s promises. God challenged Abraham to make a supreme sacrifice to prove his level of dedication to God and the covenant, as well as to foreshadow God’s supreme sacrifice that He was willing to make for us. Through Abraham’s faithfulness, the abundance of God’s blessings continue to flow to his spiritual descendants to this day.

- Abraham

When you heard the story of Abraham as a child, you might have realized that he and his wife Sarah became first-time parents at a very late age, and you might have learned that catchy song about Father Abraham and his many sons. That, however, is only the beginning of the story of the man who ended up with descendants as numerous as the sand on the shore (the Jewish nation) and the stars in the sky (his spiritual descendants - you and me). Pastor Doug encourages us to have the faith of Abraham, to begin a journey when we really don’t know the destination, the willingness to enter into a covenant relationship with God, and the strength to cast the Lot (the hindrances) out of our lives.
