Jesus frequently calls us to right hearing. He calls us to hear and respond to his words. So we must ask, "Am I a good hearer?" This sermon examines the parable of the lamp and is a call for us to hear and act upon the good news of the King and his kingdom. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

In the most well-known of Jesus' teaching styles and perhaps the most well-known parable, we consider the spread and the reception of the message of the kingdom of God. In this parable, we're encouraged to both see the word of God go forth and to be sure we are hearing properly in response to the words of life.

Gospel patrons are servants of Christ who support the work of gospel proclamation out of their means. May this encourage us all to see that we have a role to play in seeing the kingdom of God advance.
