Pontius Pilate teaches us much about the position of authority under the supremacy of God. Those in government leadership are inescapably held to God's moral standard. And when authorities are pushed to command or enforce things wholly unjust, exterior pressure is no excuse to perpetrate evil, by commission or omission. Pilate's, and today's leaders' attempts to escape responsibility for their actions is in vain. The blood remains. When John the Baptist is born, Zechariah is filled with the Holy Spirit and utters words of praise and worship. These words are filled with truth concerning Christ that will bring us great hope and joy. We see in these verses that salvation is much more that we often hear that it is.
