What is the Church? More than a Sunday gathering, an organisation, or a community of like-minded people, the Church is the glorious work and dwelling place of the Triune God. In the third message of our Nicene Creed series, we come to the heart of its confession about Jesus Christ: “true God from true God.” From John 1, we see that the Son has always been, that all things were made through him, and that in knowing Jesus we truly know God himself. So is God really like Jesus? The answer is wonderfully reassuring: there is no deeper or harsher God hiding behind Christ. The Son has made the Father known.

What was God doing before the world began? Jesus gives us an astonishing answer: the Father was loving his Son. As the Nicene Creed confesses, God is eternally Father, not someone who became Father when he created us. In this second message of our Knowing the Triune God series, we see how the Father’s eternal love shapes creation, salvation, and our own relationship with him.

We begin our series through the Nicene Creed with its opening confession: “We believe in one God.” In Isaiah 6, we encounter the God who will not be contained, discover what happens when we see him more clearly, and find that the Holy God who undoes us is also the God who graciously brings us near. This is an invitation not simply to think more clearly about God, but to know and enjoy him more deeply.
