Baptisms are one of the great celebrations of the Christian life and

Christian community. As made clear in the passages we will cover this week,

what those who are baptized on Sunday morning do is not what saves them,

rather, baptism is an outward, public, and symbolic picture of what has

already taken place in their hearts. They have been saved by trusting in

the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ in their place. So as

they enter the waters of baptism, they identify with Jesus in His death,

recognizing that their old self has died- and as they come out of the

waters of baptism, similarly, they identify with Christ’s resurrection and

the new life that they already have in Him!

Baptism serves as a symbol, but it also serves as a witness, to each one of

us, that those who are baptized this weekend testify to the resurrection of

Jesus Christ, and to His saving power in their lives- and for that reason

we must celebrate! This time in particular we are grateful to have Attaboy

with us leading us in worship on this great day!
