As Jesus was passing through Jericho on his way to Jerusalem, a wealthy and despised chief tax collector named Zacchaeus desired to see Jesus. His only option was to climb a tree, as no one would allow him a view as Jesus passed through town. However, rather than shun Zacchaeus, Jesus seeks him out. The result was a radical change of heart and a powerful work that only God could do.

Jesus told his disciples that wherever our treasure is, there our hearts will be as well. As a result, we often find our hearts dwelling in things that fail, can be taken away and can be destroyed.

Where is your treasure? How do you know? What happens when we love and trust things? Jesus offers a profound way to reinvest our treasure and relocate our hearts in the Kingdom of God. When we do, we find our hearts in a place that will never fail, where they can never be stolen and will never be destroyed.

As Jesus teaches about the power of possessions, the religious leaders ridicule him. So he tells them a parable about a rich man and a poor man who live and die and face their eternal destinies. It is a portrait of extremes with several surprises.
