  • 75th Anniversary Preaching Series: 75th Annivesary: Kristine Blaess
A Prayer of Joy From the beginning, God’s banner over us has been love. Even before the beginning, God knew that he would take our faults and our sorrows, our brokenness and our sin, turn us toward him, and make us new. The rescue we need comes from God. God’s delight is in you! The glory and the story of his grace poured out upon us though his beloved Son Jesus is lifted up in our praise. "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace that he lavished on us" (Ephesians 1:7-8a). The Rev. Dr. Kristine Blaess served as a guest preacher for our 75th Anniversary Preaching Series at 10:00am in the Nave. The Rev. Dr. Kristine Blaess has been rector at St. Paul’s Church, Murfreesboro, Tennessee since 2019. She spent her first decade of ordained ministry in rural Idaho serving congregations in majority LDS communities. Her doctoral work emerged from her desire to help congregations flourish as their leaders grow ever deeper as disciples of Jesus Christ. With great joy, Kristine+ and her husband Michael+ served at St. George’s from 2012-2019. This fall, St. Paul’s is retiring its main campus debt and developing two new initiatives to build up lay and clergy leaders: Alpha, to develop laity as spiritual and community leaders; and a Pastoral Residency, to grow healthy rectors for the sake of the Church. Son Jack is starting his sophomore year at Centre College in Danville, KY, and daughter Natalie will be a Senior at Central Magnet High School. The Reverend Michael Blaess is priest-in-charge at Church of the Redeemer in Shelbyville, Tennessee. He served at St. George’s from 2012 to 2019 and it continues to be a place he holds dear. He is married to the Reverend Dr. Kristine Blaess. They have two delightful kids (son a college sophomore and daughter a high school senior) who have been deeply formed as Christians and as musicians by the world-class chorister program at St. George’s. It is his joy to follow Jesus into the new life he has for the world and to help others do the same. Learn more about our 7th Annivesary Preaching Series at stgeorgesnashville.org/75years.

  • 75th Anniversary Preaching Series: 75th Annivesary: Gene B. Manning
The Rev. Gene B. Manning served as a guest preacher for our 75th Anniversary Preaching Series at 10:00am in the Nave. About the Rev. Gene B. Manning | Gene served as Associate Rector here at St. George’s from 2002 to 2007, providing oversight and coordination of our outreach ministries. Through her leadership, St. George’s was deeply engaged in local outreach efforts including Habitat for Humanity and the West Nashville Community Partnership — both of which restored dignity to people with insufficient housing. Gene was especially influential in building our multi-year partnership with St. Thomas Parish in Kagiso, South Africa. In addition, she served as Chaplain to St. George’s Kindergarten. Known by many for her compassion, it will come as no surprise that after leaving St. George’s, Gene served at Christ Church Cathedral, where she was responsible for their pastoral care ministry. Today she shares her gift of mentoring and years of counseling experience at Sewanee’s School of Theology, where she serves as Spiritual Director. She and her husband James continue to live in Nashville, and their family has grown to include four grandchildren. • The Rev. Sarah Puryear: Lord, Don't You Care?
Jesus sleeping in the boat during the storm evoked a desperate, pleading question from the disciples, one that most of us have asked or will ask when storms blow up suddenly in our own lives. They say to him, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are about to drown?”
