Sermons – Lakewood Church of Christ

In order to improve my ability to resist temptation, I remove: ___________________

or allow less of ____________________ in my life (TV, Computer, Social Media, Angry

outbursts...etc.)

In order to improve my ability to resist temptation, I want to equip the Holy Spirit by adding more: __________________________ and ____________________ in my life (Prayer/Word/Confession/Community)

My next specific step for handling temptation this week will be to:

Here is what I will ask God to help me do in prayer each day this week:

Reflect on how God and others have shown you compassion.

Ask God to develop a heart of compassion in you.

Be intentionally compassionate each day this week (plan for it).

Ask God to give you unplanned opportunities to show compassion.

In scripture, Jesus is found praying many different ways.

Today we will focus in on four of them.

Four Lessons learned from the prayer life of Jesus:

He often separated himself to pray in solitude.

(Luke 5:16, Luke 6:12)

He prayed in community (Luke 9:28)

He prayed for others. (John 11:40-42; John 17:1-26)

He prayed For himself (Matthew 26:39)

Jesus held Scripture in the highest possible esteem. He knew his “Bible” intimately and loved it deeply. He was raised in the Scriptures, and he spoke the language of the Scriptures. Even in his moments of greatest trial and weakness - like being tempted by Satan or being killed on a cross - he quoted Scripture.

I want to be more like Jesus.
