Pastor Houser's Sermon. Lazarus died and Jesus wept. Born of sin, we'll all die and that's contrary to God's will. Death is a reality for those Jesus loves. But the gospel message is Jesus is resurrection and life. Those who believe in Him live.

Pastor Houser's Sermon - Justified by faith is the center of the gospel. Abram's life hinged on this. God chose Abram by grace, and by God's grace, he believed. The word of God calls us to His will. By the work of the Holy Spirit, we have faith. God meets us in holy baptism and Christ gives us life.

Pastor Houser's Sermon - Death is all around in the wilderness - the desert - the world. The world is inhospitable and we made it that way. Adam failed. Eden destroyed. Jesus comes as true God and true man and overcomes the world and death. Christ delivers us from the effects of the fall. By faith we gain our lives.

Pastor Houser's Sermon - The Voice of God is Heard...when He declares: let there be light, water, land, animals and so on.He declares, let there be man. God told Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree. In today's gospel reading, Peter, James and John hear God on the mountain and they are terrified. Jesus tells them, "Rise and have no fear". Jesus is declaring the gospel. Christ brings life and immortality. We have been forgiven. have no fear.

Pastor Houser's Sermon - Perfect Holiness. That is the standard to enter heaven and the law is clear with this. But we can't keep the law. Turn to the Gospel. We are made perfectly holy by Jesus Christ. Jesus, and only Jesus, brings us life.

Seems easy enough. Life and good, death and evil. Obey the commandments and live. But we can't keep the law. Jesus fulfills the law and brings us life. Jesus is life

Let's name the gorilla in the room. We are not whom we want to be. "Getting better" or "do, don't try" will not help when it comes to our salvation. Christ does that for us. It's the message of the Gospel.

For heaven's sake, there has got to be a way to work this deal - to enter heaven's gate. The Lord requires we obey the 10 commandments, but we can't. We have no hope apart from the one who fulfilled the law...Jesus Christ. Because of Christ, we are righteous before God. Christ crucified for the sins of the world.
