Today's sermon continues our Lenten theme of Everything [in] Between by looking at what it means to be "Lost & Found." In particular, we hear Jesus describe God as a shepherd who goes out to search for a missing sheep. Jesus' promise is that no matter how far you run from God, no matter how many times you turn your back and wander away, no matter how lost you might feel, God never gives up on you. God never stops looking for you. And when you are found by God, all heaven rejoices!

On this second week in Lend, we continue A Sanctified Art's Lenten series Everything [in] Between from by looking at the favorite Lutheran topic of the tension between faith & works. In the story of Mary and Martha, Mary seems to exemplify faith by sitting and learning at Jesus' feet, while Martha spends her time engaging in good works of hospitality. Yet as followers of Jesus, we are called to both action and reflection. We are gathered in worship and sent out to live out our faith in service to our neighbors, in Jesus' name.

In our daily lives, we hear message after message of scarcity. We’re told all kinds of ways we are lacking. We’re short on time and resources; we don’t have the resources we need. Often, those messages are accompanied by an invitation to buy something, but products don’t solve the problem. In this year’s midweek Lenten series, we are exploring stories in Scripture of how God is ENOUGH. God provides what we need and more for life.

Today is Transfiguration Sunday, a turning point in the church year. Up on a mountain, Jesus' disciples begin to realize on a whole new level who it is they’re following. Jesus is not just a great teacher, not just another wise rabbi or holy faith healer; he is God with them. And his presence with them transforms their lives. May our lives similarly be transformed by the Holy Spirit’s presence with us!

As people of God, we are created in God's image as spiritual beings and renewed with the promise of new life. Rooted in that identity in Christ, we are set free to live in a way that looks different than the world expects. In this Sunday's reading from Luke 6:27-38, Jesus calls us to radical new ways of living like loving our enemies, giving to everyone who asks of us, and forgiving as we have been forgiven. 

In short, as Luke 6:31 says, "Do to others as you would have them do to you." Sounds simple, right? But to live God's way consistently is more than any of us can do on our own. Thanks be to God for giving us the strength to persevere and for grace when we fall short!
