In the same sentence where we learned that the believer is called an 'heir of God' and a 'joint-heir with Christ', we're told that the believer will also suffer with Christ. Pastor/Dr. David Murphy, in his introduction to the believer's suffering shows us:
1-the peculiar nature of Christian suffering
2-the prophecies that the believer will suffer
3-the prominence of Christian suffering in Scripture, and
4-the purposes of Christian suffering:
i-assurance that you are God's child
ii-to prepare you for greater service and future glory
iii-to understand Christ's suffering
iv-to prepare us for future glory
