A justified person will also be a sanctified person who does good works out of gratitude to God.
Scripture Lesson: Colossians 3:1-17
God has been gracious to His people because of the promises made to Abraham, which are promises made in Christ.
New Testament Lesson: Galatians 3:21-29
Rahab’s role in helping the Israelite spies demonstrates the ironic nature of the Kingdom of God. While she was known as a lowly prostitute she became an advocate for God glorifying Him. Likewise, Jesus Christ was a lowly man (not a sinner) that no one would suspect to be the Messiah. But His lowliness, through which came the power of God came, was consistent with the ironic nature of the Kingdom of God.
Your conscience is at peace when you believe that you are justified by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
Scripture Lesson: Psalm 32
Joshua’s obedience to the Law points to Jesus’ obedience to the Law by which Christians have inherited heaven.
New Testament Lesson: Hebrews 11:8-16
Christians are motivated to work hard in their respective vocations when they understand the way in which Christ has restored the significance of work.
Old Testament Lesson: Genesis 1:26-2:3
This is the first in a series of two sermons on justification. To begin, we must define the word “faith” clearly. Many believe that faith is something that God approves like a good effort. No. Faith is a gift, which God gives, and is merely an instrument through which God justifies His people.
Scripture Lesson: Ephesians 2:1-10
Christians are able to live for Christ now and to the very end of the world, despite the trials of satanic deception, because God has elected them and saved them in Christ. The fact of election and salvation not only makes it possible to live for Christ but also provides motivation for living for Christ.
Old Testament Text: Deut. 7:1-11
Christians are necessarily engaged in a spiritual battle with Satan. Satan seeks to attack your faith so that you will deny Christ and leave the church. He will continue this battle until the final day when Christ returns. But Satan never engages Christians in a direct frontal assault — his battle plan always involves deception. Even Satan’s “man of lawlessness” (the antichrist) works through deception. Through satanic deception Christians may gradually drift away from the faith believing false doctrine to be true. Christians fight against Satan’s attacks by focusing on the truth of the work and teaching of Jesus Christ. One of the truths of Jesus’ work is that He will destroy Satan and his antichrist on the final day.
Old Testament Text: Daniel 11:29-45
When Christ died on the cross He paid for our sins by suffering the eternal wrath of God.
Scripture Lesson: Hebrews 9:1-14
