We can find the answer to this question in today’s Scripture passage drawn from Hebrews 6:1-20. Verses 1-8 in today’s Scripture reading teaches us that as we carry on with our lives of faith, all of us must lay a perfect foundation of faith regarding baptism, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment regardless of how mature or young our faith is. In other words, all of us who believe in Jesus as our Savior must be grounded in a firm foundation of faith.

What exactly does it mean for a Christian to do dead works? It means failing to live by trusting in the righteousness of God. For Christian sinners to return to Christ and live a proper life of faith, they must first know what the righteousness of Christ is, cast away their dead works that are done among the heathen, and come into the presence of God. In other words, they must turn around from their worship of this world, correctly understand who God is and what His righteousness is, and truthfully return to Jesus Christ. To do so, they must realize how God has blotted out all their sins, and what glorious blessing He will give them in the future.

Through today’s Scripture passage we can see God’s servant admonishing us to inherit the promises of God through patience. We believe in the righteousness of Jesus Christ, and He loves us and is serving us. Whenever we profess to believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior, we are professing to believe that the Lord was born on this earth to save us; that He is our High Priest; that He bore all our sins by being baptized by John the Baptist; that He died on the Cross in our place; that He arose from the dead; that He ascended to Heaven; and that all these things were done by Christ out of love to serve us.
