With a guaranteed heavenly inheritance in view, Peter exhorts God's elect pilgrims to persevere in their trials, in which they will receive praise, honor, and glory from the Lord when He is revealed.

Peter reminds his readers that their inheritance is heavenly, not earthly, and that it has been guaranteed by God the Father.
