This final sermon in the series on contentment looks at the effect that being content has on our lives. Five characteristics of a content person are discussed as we dig into Philippians 4:10-20.

Is God enough? Is God really enough for us or do we still find ourselves looking elsewhere to have our needs met? This sermon explores Paul’s words in Philippians 4 about the secret he has found to being content.

"I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength." -Philippians 4:12

How do we respond to the pain in each other’s lives? This sermon looks at the account of Jesus visiting the Garden of Gethsemane right before his arrest and crucifixion. Mark describes Jesus’ state as “deeply distressed and troubled”. Jesus was in pain, and in that state, what can we learn about Jesus’ hopes for his friends, Peter, James and John?

How does God respond to the pain we face in our lives? It’s true that we often think He is silent and distant when we are hurting. But His response to the Israelites in Isaiah 43 is anything but silent and distant. This sermon looks at one example of what God says when we hurt. His words of faithfulness are both powerful and tender.

We all experience pain. Everybody hurts. This sermon is the start of a three-part series examining the issue of pain. So, when pain comes, how do we respond to it? Do we make attempts to cover it up or do we go to the source of our pain, where we will find a surprise encounter designed to help us face the pain in our lives? This is a message about that encounter and who it will be with.

Romans 12 ends with an exhortation to bless those who persecute us, to leave judgment to God, and to overcome evil with good. What does this look like practically and what does it mean to “heap burning coals” on your enemy’s head?

On the evening of his crucifixion Jesus met with his disciples. He washed their feet, told them that his time to leave had come, and he introduced a new command. “Love one another” he said. The future, the credibility, of his Church, would depend on their obedience to that command. This sermon looks at the meaning of authentic community and how we carry out this command within our church community.

In Romans 12:3-8 Paul writes about answers to three of life’s biggest questions: “Who am I?”, “Where do I belong?”, and “What am I supposed to do with my life?” This sermon looks at who God says we are, where He says we belong, and touches on the reality of God’s design for our lives.

Romans 12:2 commands us to not be conformed to the pattern of this world. What does that “pattern” look like? This sermon also looks at what it means to have our minds renewed and the amazing truth that God has a plan for us that He wants us to know and experience daily.
