We have a new identity in Jesus: we

Jesus sends his disciples as witnesses, representing him and doing what he does, carrying the message of the peace he brings

As He did for Elijah, God sets us free and sends us to proclaim His Word to our world

As he did for the man possessed by demons, Jesus dominates domination for us

What prompted the unnamed woman to wet Jesus' feet with her tears, dry them with her hair, and anoint them? What had she done or left undone that caused her to act in this way? Hers was a confession of sins without words. All of us have things in life that we also have done or left undone that weigh heavy upon us. Confession not only acknowledges the awful truth of what we have done and left undone, it also trusts that for Jesus' sake God is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

With the cross in view, Jesus compassionately gives the gift of life, which changes the situation

So often in life we calcuate our net worth in terms of dollars and cents - assets vs. liabilities. God measures things differently. The true worth of our lives shown by how much God has invested in us: the life of his only Son who shed his blood for us.

Jesus is the constant for a world and lives that keep changing

When we speak of the Holy Spirit, we are talking about the life-giving wind of God that breathes into us the new life of the forgiveness of sins, restoring to us the joy of salvation, and granting us confident hope and trust in God. We celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, and give thanks to God for the Spirit's presence and power that calls us and keeps us in the one true faith.
