We see such today in our world, as through many forms the world has ripped the curtains off the sacred marriage bed and turned this great and God-glorifying gift into something cheap and sinfully misused.  As a result, Christians will often think it is something we should not discuss or talk about even to the point of thinking maybe Christians should have nothing to do with it.  Paul though says the complete opposite.  The world has stolen what has belonged to Christians because sex belongs to God and God created it for marriage to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.  Today’s topic is sensitive, but not something we should be silent on.

Marriage continues to be redefined in our culture going against the biblical standard.  Many in our world bail on their marriage, don’t get married seeking something in between being single and married, or they are not happy in their marriage.  The problem is that marriage use to be about “us”, but now for many it has become about “me”.  So, what is the solution?  It is answered with what Paul calls a mystery or secret.  Today, we look at the secret to marriage, its power, how it fails and how it shines.

Over the next few weeks we will talk about having eternal mindedness when it comes to our marriages.  So, whether you have been married 5 years or 30, let’s all look to God’s mission and purpose for our marriage and enjoy this great mystery.

There has been a sense of togetherness in helping those in need as a result of the flooding. We asked last week and continue today to ask, What does Jesus want for us? Today, in John 17 we see that He wants unity and love. This kind of unity and love that Jesus wants from the church impacts the world in such a way that it changes their lives not just for the present, but for eternity. Let us have such a unity and love in us that we would shine bright the light of Christ in our community and world.

Do you ever wonder what Jesus wants for us or what he wants us to be about?  It is most important to know what Jesus wants for us as His followers.  Over the next two weeks we are going to ask the question, What does Jesus want for us?  The last thing we want is to just chase our tails and live without purpose and meaning.  In John 17, Jesus gives a picture of God’s mission, how it relates to us and ultimately what He wants for us.

Stop signs are important, as well as other warning signs, signals and sounds. We need them in life. We need them when it comes to our relationship with God too. In today’s psalm the psalmist is trying to get our attention to get us to stop, listen and obey.

We find today why we should delight in the Word of God and at the same time how we can live for the Lord in the real world.  Let us be encouraged again this Sunday to read our bible, read it differently and read it as though our life depends on it because it does.

I heard a great quote from David Platt two week’s ago while with the students at camp and he said, Read the bible like your life depends on it, because it does.  I love that.  Do you feel that way about the bible?  In Psalm 119, we find that the psalmist feels that way about God’s Word, as he delights in it and desires to obey it, so that he does not live a wasted life, but instead a life that is lived for the glory of God.
