  • Matthew: An Appetite for Righteousness
What do you have an appetite for? Jesus dealt with our appetite, hunger and thirst for things in His sermon on the hillside in Matthew 5. Addressing such eager desires He pointed to the one thing that our appetites should be concentrated on in a world where there are many things we hunger and thirst for. Today may God create in us a hunger for Him alone.

  • Matthew: Meek and Merciful
In today’s look at Jesus’ sermon in the hill country we are called to bear the attributes of meekness and mercy. In the world these are seen as soft characteristics. Some believe the merciful are those who are taken advantage of. They believe the gentle are weak. When it comes to the kingdom these are attributes of great worth. They are the source of God alone and God is not soft. May we listen and obey God’s desire today, to have these attitudes displayed in our life.

  • Matthew: The Poor in Spirit, who Mourn
This week we will be taking a look at Jesus' sermon in the hill country (Matthew 5-7). In this sermon, Jesus presented a whole new vision of life. He let every person know that there was another way, a better way than the complicated rules and regulations that were being taught in that day. He came to turn the view of the day upside down. He came to speak of a different way, for the way of the kingdom of heaven is different... what looks like failure is success and what looks like poverty is riches... what looks like weakness can do anything and what looks like foolishness is understanding... when what is powerful has not come to fight... what looks like torture is a time to rejoice, what sounds like thunder is a comforting voice when what is beautiful looks broken and crushed... "I See Things Upside Down" by Derek Webb As we begin this journey through the greatest sermon ever preached Jesus begins with sharing pronouncements of great blessing. They are called the beatitudes (Matthew 5.1-12). They are words of celebration, words of invitation and words of transformation.

  • Matthew: The Kingdom of Heaven
The Kingdom of heaven is here because Jesus is here. With the coming of Christ you have the coming of the age to come, but the old age is still present until Christ's second coming. So, we live today in the overlap of two ages. Today we look deeper into the kingdom of heaven and ask what must change?

  • Matthew: Jesus' Message, Means and Ministry
The longer you look at Jesus the more you will want to serve Him in His world. That is, of course, if it's the real Jesus you're looking at. Plenty of people in the church and outside it have made up a different Jesus for themselves, an invented character who makes few real demands on them. He makes them feel happy from time to time, but does not challenge them. He does not suggest they get up and do something about the plight of the world - something the real Jesus had an uncomfortable habit of doing. Our desire is to take a long look at the real Jesus in our current teaching series is in Matthew’s Gospel. Our desire is to learn more about Jesus through the record of His life and teaching, knowing Him more intimately, that we would live for Him more passionately.
