The poet Mark Nepo says, “and we are reborn each time we touch what matters” which is what we are trying to do here: we are trying to touch what matters so that we may be reborn once a week, renewed, restored, replenished, and reminded of who we are and who we mean to be. The service will explore the meaning and purpose of a liberal religious community. We will welcome new members during the service. A congregational fire drill will follow each service.

Earth Day, first commemorated in the United States in 1970, is now celebrated in 192 countries around the world as a way of both honoring the Earth and calling attention to the devastating dangers of climate change.  

Rev. Roger Bertschausen, Executive Director of the Unitarian Universalist Partner Church Council (UUPCC), will lead worship.

Led by the students from Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, the March For Our Lives on Saturday, March 24, is a national mobilization to end gun violence and school shootings.  All over the country, young people are courageously taking on the gun lobby and demanding sensible gun control laws.  They are calling adults to account for years of complacency and inaction.  Their voices are being heard.  How will the adults respond?  Hopefully, by following their lead and amplifying their demand: Never again.

Anxiety is a fact of life. How we use it makes all the difference. We tend to see anxiety as negative, as a sign of weakness, so we do whatever we can to avoid it. The service will explore the uses of anxiety and how it can support living a balanced life.

Balance begins to take shape in our lives when we become more present to our own being-ness as we seek to bring many opposing forces into alignment.   Together we will investigate and experience just how to do this work.

The service will reflect on the role of Cedar Lane in a world which needs so badly to move beyond “winners and losers” to an embracing vision of hope that embodies justice, love, and service.

Patience, persevering, and sense of purpose are constant themes when talking about resilience, especially when overcoming adversity or striving to achieve dreams and goals. It is that stick-to-itiveness – the motivation to not quit when the going gets tough – that ultimately makes the biggest difference in our lives. The service will investigate.

Being a Unitarian Universalist is a work in progress. Our religious community is a laboratory of learning in which we help one another navigate the intimate and ultimate questions of existence and persevere through life’s challenges. What preparation do we need to make to embrace a faith without certainty and to sustain a community always in process? 

The service will explore the history and development of Khasi Unitarianism in Northeast India and its strong ties to Unitarian Universalism.
