Martin Luther's last words were "We are beggars, this is true." Those words define the Christian faith nearly as well as anything else Luther ever said. We see this clearly in Matthew 20:29-34 in which Jesus heals two roadside beggars.

The disciples vie for position but Jesus teaches them about the cross.

Peter wants to know what he "gets" for leaving it all behind to follow Jesus. Jesus teaches him (and us!) about grace through an interesting parable.

James instructs his readers to be patient in suffering. What is the grounding of their patience? The hope of Christ's return.
