The reliability of the Bible is confirmed by many factors. Yet despite this, many—indeed, very many—people, often educated and sophisticated, do not trust it, do not accept it as the Word of God, do not understand its meaning, and do not accept its authority. The reason for this lies in the state of their spiritual world. Being in a state of spiritual opposition to God, these people see the facts but remain blind to their meaning. Scripture explains in detail why this happens and what is needed to overcome this problem.
There are many factors that confirm the reliability of the Bible. One of them is the documentary nature of Scripture. The Bible was not written as a myth, nor as a story with moral lessons, but specifically as a documentary record of God’s actions in human history. This record has a practical purpose. It was written to serve as a source and foundation for life. This makes Scripture a living document, carrying within it the full life that every person needs.
The reliability of Scripture is directly linked to its nature. Scripture is “inspired by God.” It is the revelation of divine truth—God’s revelation of Himself—conveyed through human beings. In this respect, the Bible is radically different from any other book ever written. Like the Son of God Himself, it contains both human and divine elements. This makes it accessible to people and, at the same time, infallible and accurate. But even more importantly, the divine inspiration of Scripture is the source of the divine power it contains.
The reliability of the Bible is confirmed by many sources, but the most compelling and significant confirmation is found within the Bible itself. God created Scripture in a remarkable way, so that it confirms itself, and this is entirely acceptable and evident to anyone who approaches it honestly. The main evidence for the Bible’s reliability is that it accurately describes reality, surpassing any other religious, philosophical, or scientific literature ever produced by humanity.
It is from this perspective that we will begin our exploration of this topic. Our first subject will be the origin of the universe. The Bible offers the only reasonable explanation for the origin of the universe, which not only sets it apart from any other book but also confirms its authority and divine origin.
Chapter 53 of Isaiah speaks not only of Christ’s substitutionary sacrifice, not only of the Son’s righteousness, not only of God’s plan of salvation, but also of His resurrection and His final victory. This is the victory that reveals the richness of the Messiah’s person. This is the victory that will justify many. This is the victory that will bring satisfaction to the Son and make those He has saved great and strong.
The salvation accomplished by Christ was planned and orchestrated from beginning to end by His heavenly Father. As terrible as it may seem, it was the Father who sent the Son to earth; it was He who led Him to suffering and death. It was the Father who poured out His holy and righteous wrath upon the Son, who took upon Himself the sins of mankind, in order to fully punish human sin in Him and satisfy eternal divine justice. This is one of the most significant doctrines of salvation.
