  • Rev. W. Harinck - Luke 10 : 21
    Bibleverse: [21]
In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

  • Rev. A.T. Vergunst - 1 Corinthians 1 : 17 - 31
    Bibleverse: [17]
For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. [18]
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. [19]
For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. [20]
Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? [21]
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. [22]
For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: [23]
But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; [24]
But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. [25]
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. [26]
For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: [27]
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; [28]
And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: [29]
That no flesh should glory in his presence. [30]
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: [31]
That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

  • Rev. A.T. Vergunst - 1 Kings 10 : 1 - 13
    Bibleverse: [1]
And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with hard questions.[2]
And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.[3]
And Solomon told her all her questions: there was not [any] thing hid from the king, which he told her not.[4]
And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon's wisdom, and the house that he had built,[5]
And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.[6]
And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom.[7]
Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen [it]: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard.[8]
Happy [are] thy men, happy [are] these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, [and] that hear thy wisdom.[9]
Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do judgment and justice.[10]
And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.[11]
And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug trees, and precious stones.[12]
And the king made of the almug trees pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the king's house, harps also and psalteries for singers: there came no such almug trees, nor were seen unto this day.[13]
And king Solomon gave unto the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, beside [that] which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.

  • Rev. A.T. Vergunst - 1 Kings 19 : 4 - 8
    Bibleverse: [4]
But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I [am] not better than my fathers.[5]
And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise [and] eat.[6]
And he looked, and, behold, [there was] a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.[7]
And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise [and] eat; because the journey [is] too great for thee.[8]
And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

    Bibleverse: [21]
And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD [be] God, follow him: but if Baal, [then] follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

    Bibleverse: [11]
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; [12]
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: [13]
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:in: or, into [14]

From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.[17]
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, [18]
Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: [19]
Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. [20]
But ye have not so learned Christ; [21]
If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: [22]
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; [23]
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; [24]
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. [25]
Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. [26]
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: [27]
Neither give place to the devil. [28]
Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.  to give: or, to distribute [29]
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. to...: or, to edify profitably [30]
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. [31]
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: [32]
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

  • Rev. A.T. Vergunst - Ephesians 5 : 1 - 21
    Bibleverse: [1]
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; [2]
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.[3]
But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; [4]
Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. [5]
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. [6]
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.disobedience: or, unbelief [7]
Be not ye therefore partakers with them. [8]
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: [9]
(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) [10]
Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. [11]
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. [12]
For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. [13]
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.reproved: or, discovered [14]
Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. he: or, it[15]
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, [16]
Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. [17]
Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. [18]
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; [19]
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; [20]
Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; [21]
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
