The gospel is the good news that through Jesus Christ we are made right with God—but it’s also the source of true freedom. In Galatians 5, Paul reminds us that Christ has set us free not only from sin, guilt, and striving to earn God’s approval, but for something greater: a life marked by love and service. This message challenges two common distortions of the gospel—adding to it through rule-keeping, or reducing it to mere escape from hell—and calls us back to its true center: Jesus Himself. Real freedom isn’t doing whatever we want; it’s being released from what enslaves us so we can live with purpose. In Christ, we are set free to love others, serve selflessly, and reflect the heart of God to the world.
